14 Must Watch Horror Movies this Halloween on Netflix

Good Old Supernatural Horror Movies
  1. The Sixth Sense (1999)

“I see dead people!”, the famous, chilling line of The Sixth Sense movie still gives me chills. The sixth sense is one of the very few notable horror movie where you have a very unexpected twist in the ending. When you are finally comfortable with all the ghosts sightseeing in the movie, Baam! The director throws you an ending which will send shivers down your spine. You will be bound to re watch the whole movie again. Many says this is M. Night Shyamalan’s greatest work till date. I can’t deny it. It’s incredibly lucky for us to get to watch this movie on Netflix now.

2. Sinister (2012)

Oh Man, I cannot fathom how scary this movie is. I have watched this movie more than 10 times and each time it gets me. This one is legit scary and you wouldn’t get out of bed for the rest of the night if you happen to watch this at night. The music, the story line of a desperate crime writer to get back his fame by moving into a house where an entire family was recently murdered and mysterious video tapes found in the House all culminates to an epic ending that no one saw coming.
If you can sleep peacefully at night after watching The Conjuring and want a higher dose of horror, this is the movie for you.

3. The Conjuring (2013)

Will you believe if I say that The Conjuring has it’s own Universe now, like the MCU. You heard that right, the Conjuring Franchise has been very successful and has garnered mass attention. This one is a good horror movie based on true events and tells the story of a family experiencing supernatural presence in the house. Real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) steps in to help the family from the evil forces.
Psychological Horror Movies
  1. The Shining (1980)

No horror movie list is complete without the mention of this classic horror movie. The Shining is well known for the spine chilling scene of Jack Nicholson’s now iconic horrific face as he walks the hallways with an ax and goes on a murderous rampage as he slowly unravels after staying at an isolated hotel.
A sequel to The Shining is coming back this very year. I’m super excited for the sequel.

2. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)

One thing is very clear, you will either love or hate this movie. I loved this movie despite it’s grossly depressing, inhumane story-line. There is an uneasy feeling since the start of the movie, slowly growing into an explosion as the movie reaches it’s end. It is horrifying to know that a teenager can manipulate and cause such devastation in a family by forcefully inserting himself in the family. A true psychologically twisted movie which will leave you questioning the abilities of people bending others to their will.

3. Gerald’s Game (2017)

Sex game gone wrong? What would you do if you are handcuffed to the bed with your dead husband lying on the floor in a remote lake house and no one will come to your rescue because you haven’t told anyone about your getaway? Another psychological thriller adapted from Stephen King’s novel, Gerald’s Game is beautifully done with self delusions, ghostly sightings and past secrets that have been buried deep.
Slasher Horror Movie
  1. Hush (2016)

A must watch slasher movie. The movie give an altogether new plot from your typical slasher movies. In this movie, a deaf writer woman is mercilessly stalked by a masked killer. The slow burning movie can get little uneasy as the killer takes it sweet, sweet time to let the woman know that he has the upper hand and will only kill her when she begs him to kill her.

2. Friday the 13th (2009)

This movie remake of the 1980 classic slasher horror movie follows a group of counselors who sets their camps in the cursed Crystal Lake and starts the killing spree of a masked vengeful killer, Jason Voorhees who is out to get his revenge.
Thriller Horror Movies
  1. Don’t Breath (2016)

A seemingly easy robbery goes horribly wrong in this thrilling horror movie. Three thieves plan to rob a retired, rich blind veteran in his house. To their surprise the blind man catch them in the act and overpowers them one by one. As they are trapped inside the house and struggles to find a way out of the house, they uncover some pretty shocking secrets of the blind man in his basement.

2. The Invitation (2015)

Why go to your ex’s house when you can chill in your own house? In this twisted thriller movie, a man goes to a dinner invitation hosted by his ex wife. Soon over the dinner tensions start brewing among the exes and their friends. The man starts suspecting his ex wife as she preaches about cleansing the world. When he discovers the true intentions of his ex wife, he is horrified and tries to save himself and his friends.
After watching this movie, you won’t feel like accepting a dinner invitation from your ex anytime soon.

3. Birdbox (2018)

The first original Netflix film, Birdbox is a well done thriller movie. Sandra Bullock stars as a mom who has to take care of her two children from the ominous presence that has wiped out the world population five years ago. On a way to a safe haven, Bullock faces a lot of hardships as she and her children makes their way blindfolded to the last hopeful place in the world.

Comedy Horror Movies

  1. Zombieland (2009)

Academy Awards nominees and winner Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, stars in this hilarious zombie apocalypse aftermath. The film follows a group of people who meet each other and band together to stay alive in a world now full of zombies. Eisenberg who is obsessed with his rules, Harrelson with his witty humor and Emma as a badass zombie killer makes this movie a very enjoyable one.

2. Little Evil (2017)

A step father’s job is a hard one. Being a step dad to a kid who seems like the Antichrist just doesn’t seem right. In this comedy horror, a step father tries hard to forge a bond with his step son and gradually become sure that he is indeed the Antichrist. Watch till the end for a surprisingly positive ending. This movie is great for a family.

3. The Babysitter (2017)

A hot babysitter who helps you get through your bullying school friends? Where do you find a babysitter like that? And when you find it, you will obviously fall in love with her. A teenage kid is bullied in his school for still having a babysitter. When his parents leave for a little vacation, he tries to find out what his babysitter is up to after he falls asleep. He wished he had fallen asleep, because as the night goes on, his life is changed forever.
